    2017 Freedom/Fiddlin' Fest Leitchfield, KY

    man playing fiddle

Doing some fiddlin’ around this weekend? Long before the music starts on the square on Saturday, you’ll be able to enjoy it when you join the participants at the Hatfield Inn leading up to the contest. Impromptu sessions spring up everywhere when you get some fiddlers together and with them getting together early, you’ll witness some fine string music (without the bouncing basketball!) If you’re coming to Leitchfield for the Twin Lakes Fiddling Festival and Freedom Fest, stay with us at The Hatfield Inn.

    Our Own Championship Fiddlers

The Twin Lakes Fiddling Festival is an offshoot of the Kentucky State Fiddlin’ Festival which began in Grayson County many, many years ago. Several of our own Kentucky State Fiddlin’ Champions will be on hand to remember the history and the music of this former contest, including Ed Carnes, Mark Ralph and, if he’s not too busy playing for Garth Brooks, Jimmy Mattingly.

    Freedom Fest

The weekend starts with a bang on Friday night as the Leitchfield Freedom Festival fills the night sky with fireworks designed to delight young and old. The Tennessee Mafia Jug Band will be playing on the square leading up to the fireworks and there will be a Rod Run and Cruise-In car show going on as well. A children’s bouncy house and other activities will also be available. If you’re unfamiliar with our beautiful town, there will an historical walking tour at 6:00 p.m. beginning at the Jack Thomas House. Vendors will also be on-hand on both days of the festival.

    Fiddlin’ Festival

But Saturday, it’s all about the music (and dancing, of course). The National Fiddler Championship begins at 9:00 a.m. and will feature players from 8-80 and maybe beyond. There’s a pancake breakfast at the South Main Street firehouse from 6-10 a.m. and the Freedom Run 5K will begin at the Ronald H Hudson Firehouse on Brandenburg Road at 7:45 a.m. The car show will continue Saturday and there will be free admission and free rides for children from 2 p.m. to dusk.
